How to Set Up Feishu (Lark) Webhook Notifications for SSL Alerts

How to Set Up Feishu (Lark) Webhook Notifications for SSL Alerts

If your team uses Feishu (飞书) or Lark for collaboration, you can receive SSL certificate alerts directly in your group chats. Setting up a custom bot takes just a few minutes, and once configured, you'll get timely notifications exactly where your team works.

What's a Feishu Custom Bot?

Feishu allows you to create custom bots that receive messages from external systems via webhooks. Unlike full-featured Feishu apps that require developer approval, custom bots are lightweight integrations you can set up yourself—no admin permissions needed.

Think of it as a one-way messenger: GuardSSL sends certificate alerts to your webhook URL, and the bot posts them to your group chat.

What You'll Need

  • A Feishu or Lark account
  • A group chat where you want to receive alerts
  • Optional: A signature key for enhanced security

Step 1: Open Your Group Chat Settings

First, navigate to the group where you want SSL alerts to appear.

  1. Open the group chat in Feishu/Lark
  2. Click the ... (More) icon in the upper-right corner
  3. Select Settings from the menu

If you're on desktop, you can also click the group name at the top to access settings.

Step 2: Add a Custom Bot

In the group settings, look for the Bots section:

  1. Click Bots or Group Bots
  2. Click Add Bot
  3. Choose Custom Bot from the list

Note: If you don't see the Custom Bot option, your organization might have restricted bot creation. Contact your Feishu admin.

Step 3: Configure Your Bot

Now give your bot an identity:

Name

Enter something descriptive like "SSL Monitor" or "GuardSSL Alerts." This name will appear as the sender of all notifications.

Description (Optional)

Add a short description to help group members understand what this bot does.

Icon (Optional)

Upload a custom icon to make the bot easily recognizable.

Click Add or OK to create the bot.

Step 4: Copy the Webhook URL

After creating the bot, you'll immediately see the Webhook URL. It looks like this:

https://open.feishu.cn/open-apis/bot/v2/hook/xxxxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx

Or for Lark (international version):

https://open.larksuite.com/open-apis/bot/v2/hook/xxxxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx

Copy this URL carefully. You'll need it to configure GuardSSL.

For added security, Feishu offers signature verification. When enabled, each request must include a valid signature generated using a secret key.

To enable it:

  1. In the bot settings, find Security Settings
  2. Toggle on Signature Verification
  3. Copy the Secret Key that appears

You'll need to enter this key in GuardSSL along with the webhook URL.

When to use signature verification: If your webhook URL might be exposed or if you're extra cautious about security, enable this. It prevents unauthorized parties from sending messages to your group even if they get the webhook URL.

Step 6: Configure in GuardSSL

Head to your GuardSSL dashboard:

  1. Navigate to SettingsNotification Settings
  2. Find the Feishu card and click Setup Channel
  3. Paste your Webhook URL in the first field
  4. (Optional) If you enabled signature verification, enter your Signature Key
  5. Click Save

Click Test Connection to verify. You should see a test message pop up in your Feishu group within seconds.

What the Alerts Look Like

GuardSSL sends alerts as formatted cards that include:

  • Domain name with expiration warning
  • Days remaining until the certificate expires
  • Severity indicator (green, yellow, or red based on urgency)
  • Timestamp of when the check occurred

These aren't plain text messages—they're nicely styled cards that are easy to read at a glance.

Managing Your Bot

Editing Bot Settings

Need to change the bot name or icon?

  1. Go to group settings → Bots
  2. Find your custom bot in the list
  3. Click on it to edit details

Rotating the Webhook URL

If you suspect your webhook URL has been leaked:

  1. Access the bot settings
  2. Look for an option to regenerate the webhook URL
  3. Update the new URL in GuardSSL

⚠️ Important: After regeneration, the old URL immediately stops working.

Removing the Bot

If you no longer need SSL alerts in this group:

  1. Go to group settings → Bots
  2. Find your custom bot
  3. Click remove or delete

Troubleshooting

Messages not appearing?

Check these common issues:

  1. Webhook URL is incorrect — Double-check for typos or extra spaces
  2. Bot was removed — Verify the bot still exists in the group
  3. Group permissions changed — Some groups restrict what bots can post
  4. Using wrong domain — Make sure you're using feishu.cn for China or larksuite.com for international

Signature verification failing?

If you enabled signature verification:

  1. Ensure the secret key in GuardSSL exactly matches the one in Feishu
  2. Check for leading/trailing spaces when pasting
  3. Try disabling verification temporarily to isolate the issue

Rate limiting?

Feishu has rate limits for custom bots. If you're monitoring many domains and triggering lots of alerts, you might hit these limits. Consider:

  • Reducing check frequency
  • Using multiple bots for different domain groups
  • Batching notifications (coming in future GuardSSL updates)

Feishu vs. Lark: Which Should I Use?

  • Feishu (feishu.cn) — For users in mainland China
  • Lark (larksuite.com) — For international users

The setup process is identical; only the webhook URL domain differs. Use whichever matches your organization's Feishu/Lark instance.

Wrapping Up

With Feishu integration, your SSL alerts arrive right where your team collaborates. No more missed renewals or last-minute certificate fires—just timely notifications in your group chat.
